The case stems from an incident on 7 March 2015 when a bomb was hurled at the Criminal Court’s parking lot and military officers arrested two individuals, Mahahin Khunthong and Yuttana Yenpinyo. Later, 12 more suspects were arrested and charged.

The incident happened shortly after the 2014 military coup and the military officers invoked martial law when they carried out the arrests. During the arrest, Yuttana was shot by the police three times in his leg, hip and buttock. Yuttana had been remanded in custody since his arrest. Witness examination in this case initially took place in the Military Court before being transferred to a civilian court when the verdict was read on 17 June 2022.
