Yongyuth (last name withheld), a member of the public, was accused of physically abusing an official while they were performing their official duties according to Article 296 and Article 289(2) of the Criminal Code. He was accused of elbowing the police official while he was being arrested at Major Cineplex Ratchayothin just before the start of the REDEM-led public assembly at the Lat Phrao intersection and the procession to litter and set garbage on fire in front of the Criminal Court during #Mob6March21.
Yongyuth recalled that on that day, he was accused of committing a flagrant offence and was immediately arrested without a warrant at Major Cineplex Ratchayothin. When he saw an official using his baton to prod the behind of a female protester. He was enraged at the injustice.
Yongyuth pled guilty to charges in the Court of First Instance on 5 May 2021 and his one-year-sentence was reduced to six months. Later, on 11 April 2023, the Appeal Court upheld the previous verdict while Yongyuth was continually allowed to post bail. But on 6 June 2024, when the Supreme Court upheld the previous verdict and sentence of six months imprisonment, Yongyuth had to go straight to prison. A family breadwinner, Yongyuth is the provider for his73-year-old mother who has diabetes and problems with her eyesight.
