Occupation: N/A
Case: Possession of Explosives, Violation of the Emergency Decree
Date of Imprisonment: 6 November 2023
Location of Imprisonment: Khao Bin Central Prison, Ratchaburi Province
On 10 August 2021, after the #Mob10Aug21 demonstration was called off at 8.30pm, Napat and four friends were returning to their residences. They were searched by police investigators from the demonstration site who then charged and arrested them without warrants. Napat was found during the search to have three Ping Pong bombs in his possession. They were self-made and placed in his brown shoulder bag. The police brought him to the Talingchan Police Station to prepare an arrest memo and to interrogate him. He was then released the next day at the investigation level after posting 100,000 baht as bail.
On 2 November 2021, Napat was indicted for possessing three lower-pressure explosives made of flash powder and wrapped with black sticky tape. They appeared to be self-made bombs (Ping Pong bombs) which were considered explosives according to the law and were explosives for which the registrar cannot issue a license. On the first day of witness examination on 13 September 2022, Napat recanted his previous statement to plead guilty to the charges. The Court ordered officials carry out an inquiry into the defendant’s behavior, before scheduling to read the verdict on 29 November 2022.
The Court convicted and sentenced Napat to two years for being complicit in possessing explosives and one month for violating the Emergency Decree. Given his guilty plea, the punishment was reduced by half to one year and 15 days in jail.
